Antique 1920's bungalow doll house, made by The A. It features faux brick walls and a faux brownstone foundation, with a wooden front door with metal hinges and metal window frames with glass.
There is an attic which is accessed by removing the roof to reveal a smooth floor. This was my mother's dollhouse. She was born in 1915, and she and her three younger sisters played with it, so I'm guessing it is from the early 1920's.
The dollhouse is all original. It has not been painted or refinished. It measures 14" deep, 11" wide, and 11 tall at the top of the gable. The floor plan is one room with five glass windows and a front door that opens and closes.
One side wall of the house opens to allow access to the entire room. There are two "windows" which are outlined on the inside back wall, but are not real windows. The floors of the main room and the attic are covered with paper finished to look like flooring.
It has been lovingly played with by four young sisters. The original front door, which includes the original hinges and doorknob, is included, but it is not attached to the house. The original front window frame and glass are included, but they are not attached to the house. The bottom part of the lace curtains on one side window is missing. The front window and one of the windows on the wall that opens do not have curtains. It looks like there used to be a chimney (which I have never seen), and it is not included. The roof edges are worn, and there are various worn areas as well as small tack holes. The underside of the roof was constructed a little off-center at the factory, and there is minor damage to the frame of the underside of the roof, as seen in the photos. The roof is sturdy, and it fits neatly onto the house and does not look crooked.
The paint on the front pillars and the window frames is worn, as well as the floors and walls. The gables appear to be finished with paper, which shows signs of age and use. The foundation frame is sturdy, however one back corner has a small piece that is separating, as seen in the last photo. It does not affect the integrity of the frame and could be easily glued and clamped. I did not undertake any repairs to the dollhouse. The dollhouse is in the condition in which it was stored away many years ago. I didn't even know my mother had it until she showed it to me when she moved in the 1980's. Later I inherited it, and it has been packed away until now. It could use a good cleaning as well as a little TLC. The dollhouse is charmingly authentic and could be left in "as is" condition or re-conditioned.
